Did an asteroid hit Earth last night? Where did NASA track it to?

Yes, an asteroid impacted Earth recently.

On the night of December 4, 2024, NASA tracked the asteroid, named 2024 BX1, which entered Earth's atmosphere and created a fireball over Europe.

The asteroid was spotted just 90 minutes before it hit

and despite its small size, it caused an exciting event as it disintegrated into meteorites that were later recovered by meteorite hunters.

The impact zone was around Berlin, Germany, and the fragments are now being studied for their rare composition.

This particular asteroid was part of a group called "Apollo asteroids," which are near-Earth objects.

The meteorites found are extremely rare and could provide crucial insights into the formation of the solar system
