Heart Palpitations at Night or Before Sleep

Heart palpitations are a common occurrence when you feel your heart racing, pounding, or skipping beats. Experiencing them at night or before sleep can be unsettling, but they are often harmless.

These episodes may happen due to stress, anxiety, or caffeine consumption close to bedtime. Lying down can make you more aware of your heartbeat, amplifying the sensation.

Other possible causes include dehydration, low blood sugar, or certain medications. Hormonal changes, especially in women, and underlying health conditions like anemia, thyroid issues, or arrhythmias may also trigger palpitations.

To reduce nighttime palpitations, avoid stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine in the evening. 

Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation to manage stress and improve sleep quality. If you suspect dehydration, ensure you’re drinking enough water during the day.

While occasional palpitations are typically benign, frequent or severe episodes, especially if accompanied by chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath, warrant medical attention.
